youth mentoring programs
From the homepage of Tahilan website

As I was about to enter my first year in college, I needed to look for a place to stay.

Since I live in Laguna and the university is all the way in Manila, my mom suggested that I stay in Tahilan, a residence and study center which is just a seven-minute walk from my school.

When I first went to see the place, I thought that it was just right.  From home-cooked meals to room service and even to daily get-togethers, Tahilan seemed to be the best option for a dormitory.

But more than that, there was something about it that other residences did not offer:  It is a home.

It is only with a family atmosphere and a sense of love and care that a house can be called a home, and Tahilan happens to have all of that!

Even with the smallest details, the administration makes sure that the residents have a clean and safe place to return to after a busy day in school.

From cleaning the rooms and cooking good food to making an extra effort to decorate the dining room for birthdays and small celebrations, they put their hearts into everything they do.

Unlike other dorms around Taft, Tahilan is a family. Whether it be telling jokes over dinner, watching a movie on a Saturday night, or sharing stories during get-togethers, the residents and staff spend quality time together.

Each one, despite the many tasks that our respective courses or jobs require, allot some time to get to know each other better. Given our different strengths and weaknesses, we try to help each other even in the simplest ways. We also respect one another especially in the way we dress and act.

Though I may not be able to sleep in the comfort of my own home and see my family every day, I come home to twenty other girls with whom I eat, bond, and grow, not only as a university student, but as a friend and sister as well.

Living in Tahilan has helped me grow not just as a student but as a whole person.

Who would have thought that being a good student, daughter, friend, and child of God all at the same time was possible despite my heavy workload and deadlines?

With the help of my mentor, fellow residents, and staff, I learned to balance my academics and extracurricular activities. Adjusting to college was not easy, but having my Tahilan family around made it seem a lot easier. After a year of living in a place where I’ve made good friends and great memories, I can truly say that Tahilan is my home away from home.
